I really love watching romantic movies , so for all those romantics out there, I have compiled a list of movies that I have enjoyed in the past. Here they are...

Have you seen the movie The Revenant? It stars Oscar winner, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tom Hardy. It's on Netflix now! It's a thrilling movie that won an Oscar for best cinematography in 2016.

Alejandro González Iñárritu, also, won an Oscar for best Director and Leonardo DiCaprio won an Oscar for best Actor this year for The Revenant. I definitely recommend seeing this movie for its amazing survival story.
Where was The Revenant Filmed?
The film was made in the most toughest of climates in the area of Kananaskis Country, which is a collection of parks to the west of Calgary in the western Canadian province of Alberta. Temperatures can drop to -300C in these areas, which must have been hell for the cast working there.
A battle scene from The Revenant was shot at Morley, a First Nations settlement within the Stoney Indian reserve. You can see the Spray Lakes Reservoir close to the town of Canmore where a fort was built especially for the film.
In some of the film, the historic McDougall United Church is located a few miles from Morley. Fortress Mountain also appears in some scenes along with the Badlands of Drumheller, where Tom Hardy’s character spots a meteor. This area is sometimes referred to as Dinosaur Valley, because of the large number of fossils that have been found there.

Later in the movie, Leonardo DiCaprio’s character is attacked by a bear. The cast and crew went to the west to shoot this scene and it took place in the Squamish Valley of British Columbia.
Of course, some filming took place in the US. One scene was shot at the Kootenai Falls near Libby, Montana. Also, the final scenes were shot thousands of miles south of Canada, in the Tierra del Fuego province of Argentina.
What is The Revenant About?
The Revenant is basically the story of Hugh Glass played by Leonardo DiCaprio. The film is set in 1823.
Whilst Hugh Glass is exploring the wilderness, he sustains injuries from a brutal bear attack. When his hunting team finds him they decide to leave him behind with John Fitzgerald (played by Tom Hardy), who is left to take care of Glass. But Fitzgerald does not fulfill his obligation, so he leaves him for dead out in the wilderness.
Glass has no choice and must use his survival skills to find a way back home to his family. Glass becomes grief-stricken and is determined to gain revenge as he treks through the wintry terrain to track down Fitzgerald who has betrayed and abandoned him.

The Performance

In my opinion, I think The Revenant deserved more than just an Oscar for best cinematography, best actor and best director, because this movie has an outstanding story to it, along with a superb cast.
Leonardo DiCaprio was epic and stood out in so many ways during his performance. I believe he has shown us to be one of the greatest actors of all time. He puts a tremendous amount of effort into his projects and The Revenant is an exception.
Watch out for DiCaprio's next movie. It is said in an article at Empireonline that he will be working on an adaptation of the forthcoming novel The Sandcastle Empire written by Kayla Olson, which is her first book to be published soon. It’s a YA novel set in the year 2049 about the end of the world due to climate change. I believe this will be another hit for us to enjoy in the future.
If DiCaprio is looking for novels like The Sandcastle Empire, then perhaps, new authors should consider writing in this kind of genre. I wish he would read one of my books, which I have shared below. Take a look at them and read them if you want. Who knows, you might enjoy them!

I had expected I'd want to watch the movie after I read your review - which I do! But now I find myself wanting to watch the documentary about the making of the film!
